And this right here is why it took me years to make it into medical school regardless of me being just as good at my job as the rest of them. That whole expectation of everyone being perfect at bullcrapping is why we end up with so many horrible physicians (congratulations). The interview can definitely tell you who is supercilious or uses preteen patois like “”fleek,” weeding out truly horrible candidates, but do you really think practicing for that interview over and over again for years magically healed me of Aspergers? Those who shake and are nervous during his or her interview are also the most likely to actually give a crap about getting in. Those who are the calmest and most articulate are also the most likely to have the school be their second/third choice, or be sociopaths. Before you say it, yes, I am very bitter about it. I am a good five years behind my peers, still stuck in residency while they make great paychecks, all because I have a disorder that won’t impact my ability as a anesthesiologist.
